We loved visiting a local Elementary School in Abbotsford, BC, Canada, today to plant potatoes with the students!
Thanks to BC Agriculture in the Classroom for showing us their Spuds in Tubs program, and letting us join in during Canadian Agricultural Literacy Month (CALM).

Exploring Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver today.
We're in Vancouver, Canada, ahead of the Nuffield Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC) later this week hosted by Nuffield Canada. We'll get to meet all the 2023 Scholars from around the world to share ideas and learn together about global agriculture. Nuffield Australia scholarships for 2024 have opened! If you are interested in researching a topic through global travel, joining a connected alumni, and building great friendships, apply for this unique program today at www.nuffield.com.au We thank Nuffield Australia and AgriFutures Australia for their investment in Aimee to explore ag education and engagement models around the world. Today we joined a Journey 2050 excursion (field trip) hosted by Calgary Stampede.
Journey 2050 is developed by Nutrien in Canada as an education program that explores agriculture asking students 'how will we sustainably feed 10 billion people by 2050?' The program includes an online game available globally, guest speakers across North America, and field trips and incursions around Calgary. You can explore the game here: www.journey2050.com/play-the-game/ Yesterday we met Luke Silinski, founder of Ag Tech STEAM, along with his Mum, Shanyn.
Luke, a high school student himself, has developed free ag tech education boxes filled with STEAM activities for teachers and schools. They introduce coding and ag tech to students to educate them about agriculture and showcase the options for a future in the industry. And... there's LEGO! As Luke uses LEGO to showcase soil profiles and build robotics, and highlight ag tech. Bag packed and ready to go!
We're sharing more in-depth reflections of our Nuffield Australia journey here. |
