Introducing Little BRICK Farmers...
The following 3min pitch was delivered in the Great Hall of Parliament House on Wednesday 7 February 2018 as part of the 2018 ABC Heywire Trailblazer program.
Meet the LEGO Farmer
I created him.
There’s a whole world of LEGO photography out there. But up until the 6th of September 2014, there was no farmer. Now there is. My LEGO Farmer, the central character of my brand Little BRICK Pastoral. Together we are starting a conversation about Australian agriculture.
From posting a couple of photos online three years ago, to now tapping into everyone’s love of LEGO, and getting into classroom education. We are now hoping to combine these two things to showcase the diversity of careers in agriculture.
I have attended careers expos and schools to speak with students and encourage them to consider a career in our great industry. In researching for these events, I sought resources that were nationwide, shared real life stories, and showcased diversity. And so the seed for Little BRICK Farmers was sown.
A mechanic.
A dairy farmer.
An agronomist.
A research scientist.
These people are all involved in our wider agricultural industry.
Australia thrives on the success of agriculture. And our industry thrives on the passion, knowledge and experience of the people involved. For Australia to continue to be a global leader, we need to be attracting the brightest, creative and innovative minds into our industry.
We need to inspire them to feed and clothe the world.
We need to inspire them to share their skills and knowledge with our industry.
We need to inspire them to be passionate advocates for our industry.
And it is my view that we inspire by showcasing the diversity of our industry, by sharing the incredible opportunities it presents for young people, and by profiling those already making waves in our industry.

Little BRICK Farmers is my way of doing just that!
Little BRICK Farmers will share the real life stories of young people involved in agriculture.
Little BRICK Farmers will create an online hub that shares these stories, champions existing resources, and provides a connection. Because don’t forget, LEGO connects!
I am supported by a strong network within Australian agriculture and education. I will visit schools and expos, field days and LEGO exhibitions, to share these stories and resources, to increase our reach, and to interact with the future of our industry. These events are the highlight of my calendar. Two weeks ago I was in Melbourne for BrickVention, Australia’s largest LEGO Exhibition, attracting some 27,000 people over three days. And we bring agriculture into that space. The conversations we have. The lightbulb moments we witness. These are the things that drive me.
If you are excited about encouraging and inspiring our youth, and our future, to pursue a career in agriculture, just like I am, then I would love to hear from you! Thank you.
